How Real Is EMF Sensitivity?

Do you have issues like fatigue and concentration problems even though you’re in good health? Do these symptoms appear unrelated to any mental and physical disorders?

You could have EMF sensitivity. Research has shown this is surprisingly more common than people realize, found in 3%-5% of the population within affected countries.

There’s a lot of misinformation about EMF and EMF sensitivity, however. Many conspiracy theorists take EMF theories too far, while many people dismiss EMF effects entirely.

We bring you the EMF facts so you won’t be confused by EMF fiction. Keep reading to learn more!

What is EMF?

EMF stands for Electric and Magnetic Fields. There’s a lot of in-depth science behind EMF. Most people only need to know some general facts:

  • Generated by electricity.
  • Divided by high, low, and mid-frequency.
  • High-frequency EMF (gamma and x-rays) damage human cells directly.
  • Low-mid frequency EMF exposure has increased to its highest rate in human history.

Most modern living includes some form of EMF exposure. This exposure is non-ionized, meaning it doesn’t directly cause cancer and other severe health issues like high-frequency ionized exposure. It’s still linked to adverse health symptoms for EMF-sensitive people, however.

Is EMF Sensitivity Real?

The confirmed first reports of EMF sensitivity, often referred to as EHS (Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity) originated in Sweden in the 1980s. Since then, multiple countries have independently seen increasing reports of EHS or similar. These reports correlate with the rise in EMF exposure.

You may have seen articles about the controversies of EMF exposure and EHS. Sensitivity to EMF is difficult to verify for several reasons:

  • Lack of demographically similar control groups without any EMF exposure
  • Symptoms are similar to many other health issues
  • Difficult to accurately measure true amounts of low-mid frequency EMF exposure

Most studies simply expose EHS-affected people to controlled EMF in a shielded room. If people cannot tell when they are exposed, the studies conclude no EMF and EHS links actually exist.

These studies are limited by a lack of control groups and dismissal of chronic effects that appear after repeated and consistent exposure for long periods of time.

Despite this, EHS remains a valid health concern for medical professionals. Even institutions like the WHO, which are waiting on a verified link between EHS and EMF, still consider the symptoms of EMF sensitivity to be real.

Symptoms of EMF Sensitive People

Symptoms of EMF sensitivity can range from mildly irritating to severe. These symptoms include:

  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Sleeping issues
  • Memory and concentration problems
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Burning or tingling
  • Visible skin irritation

Some of these symptoms are also found in many physical or psychological conditions, such as depression. However, there is currently no disorder where all the common symptoms are also present.

Causes of EMF Sensitivity

Low-mid frequency EMF exposure comes from many household devices and structures. These include:

  • Power lines
  • Electric wires
  • Cell phone towers
  • Radars and satellite dishes
  • Televisions and computer screens
  • Cordless appliances
  • Wireless devices

If you want to lower your exposure to EMF, you don’t have to go live off the grid. There are many EMF protective devices you can use instead.

EMF Protection

EMF protection comes in a range of strategies, from bed canopies to shielding paint. Other EMF protection includes:

  • Clothing
  • Fabrics
  • Sleeping bags
  • Curtains
  • Cell phone cases and pouches
  • Router boxes and bags
  • Dirty electricity filters

One of the most versatile and easiest ways to protect yourself is with an EMF filter. Click here to learn more!

Protecting Yourself from EMF Sensitivity

Although many institutions are reluctant to fully realize EMF sensitivity and EMF exposure, your health doesn’t have time for them to catch up. You can safeguard yourself and your loved ones with some simple EMF protection strategies.
